This week, we celebrated the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics.
Launching our big project, we watched the opening ceremony...
and we were introduced to some of our new books.
Then, we watched Mikaela Shiffrin earn a gold medal for her giant slalom run...
watched Mirai Nagasu land her triple axle flawlessly...
watched Shaun White earn his gold on the halfpipe...
and watched Lauren Gibbs and Elana Meyers Taylor win silver in the 2-women bobsled.
Actually, we just could not get enough of the bobsleds and every student now has aspirations of being an Olympic bobsledder when they grow up.
We matched pictures of Olympic events...
we learned to write some of the words...
and we loved the Olympic rings.
Once everyone settled into a favorite event, we began to research for our project.
We drew pictures, we dictated what new information we've learned and what our favorite aspect of the sport is, we learned the difference between the medals, and we cut out our favorite pictures to make a collage.
We even cut as we watched some figure skating.
Finally, it was the big day. On Friday, in front of a room full of parents, we presented our posters that we had carefully put together throughout the week.
We started with the figure skating team...
and then took a bow.
Then the snowboarding team...
and we took a (sort of) bow...
Then the bobsledding team...
and we took a bow.
Finally, the ski team...
and we took a bow.
The kids were incredible! Phenomenal! Extraordinary! By the end, we all felt like this...
It was an amazing week!
