These two weeks, we've learned all about our community helpers.
For our first order of business, we studied emergency workers.
One of our main emphasis the first week of the unit was learning how to dial 9-1-1. Throughout the the next couple of days, we had many lessons practicing how to dial it.
We examined different types of phones and discussed how there are many types of keypads.
We talked a lot about different emergencies that might require a call to 9-1-1 and we heavily went over the fact that 9-1-1 was only for emergencies and never for fun (feel free to ask them to sing the song).
We studied police officers...
and had fun with fingerprints.
(Hopefully this is the last time they are fingerprinted like this.)
We studied fire fighters...
...and then got to meet firefighter Jeremy. This was absolutely the highlight of our week.
In fact, we played police officers and firefighters for the rest of the week.
This week also served as a review of letters A-F.
For show-n-tell, we saw an astronaut, blanket, cat, dolly, emergency truck, and a flower.
We also reviewed our numbers.
By the next week, we were ready to study many different jobs people in the community can do.
We even had an opportunity to think about what we wanted to do when we grew up.
Ms. Kristina, an elementary school therapist, came to talk about her job. She also discussed emotions that we feel throughout our day and some gave us some calming techniques we can use.
We ended our week by discussing our military heroes and Veteran's Day. Then, we wrote thank-you notes to our favorite deployed soldier.
It's been a good two weeks!
