May 25th, 2018

This unit, we learned all about eggs, farms, and farm animals.

First, we made sure to farm out our classroom.

We cut...

we painted...

and we made our new door.

We got all new books...

and we began to research different farm animals.

But, the absolute highlight of the unit was our incubator and chicken eggs.  Before graduation, we should have a few baby chicks!

**These next photos were added 6/15/18 to show our 4 baby chicks that hatched!**

**Now back to May**
Everyday we carefully watch over our eggs...

laugh with them...

love them...

and listen for any peeping sounds.

We made sure to be extra prepared by watching a few videos...

counting baby chicks...

and we practiced not dropping eggs off of a spoon with Pioneer Day School.

And we also just loved our friends from Pioneer.

Back in class, we mastered addition problems.  Hen style.

We counted eggs in a basket...

and got really excited when we got the right answer.

Really excited.

Throughout our lessons, we also practiced written numbers...

teamwork...

and lots of Spanish.

We tended to our crops...

and even spotted our very first baby pumpkin!

We also have cucumbers...

tomatoes...

and corn.

Now that we're farming experts, we read the story of The Little Red Hen.  Together, we listened as she grew her own wheat, harvested her crops, and baked bread by scratch without the help of any of her farm animal friends.

Afterwards, we read sentences together from the story...

and wrote key vocabulary words.

But, you know me well enough to guess that we didn't stop there.
We also baked our own bread.

We mixed together all of our ingredients...

and we kneaded...

and we punched!

As it was rising, I carefully took it home in its own seat belt.

So that it was freshly baked by the next day.

Soon, we were ready to finish our research projects.

We got the backdrop prepared, too.

And we gave another phenomenal presentation.

Because we're just that awesome.
