April 7th, 2017

This week, we learned all about insects!

We started our week off with reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

Then, we made a classroom book about our own very hungry caterpillars.

We also heavily discussed the life cycle of a butterfly.

But, discussing it just doesn't do it justice and we had to observe it for ourselves.
Meet Catty and Pillar, our classroom caterpillars.

Throughout the week, we had an opportunity to witness firsthand our caterpillars go from crawling...

...to preparing to transform...

...to all-out chrysalis!  We expect beautiful monarchs within the next 10-14 days.

Meanwhile, we also had fun with other insects.
We played buggy games...

...we examined real specimens...

...and we constructed models with clay.

We also didn't just stop with caterpillars.  We built up a mini entomology lab with a grasshopper...

...crickets...

...an ant farm...

and countless ladybugs!

Eventually, on Friday, we let the crickets, grasshopper, and ladybugs go back into the wild.

Then, we reflected on our favorite bugs.

It's been a truly wonderful week!
