October 13th, 2017

This week, we celebrated all things fall!

Preparing for our unit, I autumn'd out the classroom.
This month is always my favorite of the school year.

We first studied the changing leaves of the fall and looked at numerous photos of what fall looks like everywhere in the U.S. (except for San Diego).  Then, we made our own renditions of fall leaves.

We practiced some fall scissor use...

...we practiced some fall Spanish.

Introducing our new sport for the next few weeks, we learned a bit about tennis.  Our first objective was to become familiar with handling a tennis racket.

We also had an opportunity to closely examine pinecones...

...and dabbled in a bit of compare/contrast critical thinking.

By the next week, we shifted our focus more on to pumpkins.

Examining several types and varieties, we quickly agreed that no two pumpkins are exactly alike.

Adding to our science journals, we further strengthened our compare and contrast skills.

We painted pumpkins...

we counted pumpkins...

we counted pumpkins in Spanish.

We also learned Cinco Calabacitas (Five Little Pumpkins) while playing with our own five calabacitas.

On Wednesday, we visited Oma's Pumpkin Patch for our first field trip of the year.

Back in class, we practiced the written letter Dd's...

and we continued with our tennis lessons.

We really started knocking them out of the park!
(Yes, this ball hit me in the neck milliseconds after the photo was taken).

Finally, it was our long awaited pumpkin bread day!
We spent the first part of the morning dissecting pumpkins and separating the seeds, goo, and edible flesh.

Fortunately, Mr. Salvador just installed our brand new sink outside the classroom last night.

Then, we spent the next part of our morning mixing ingredients together!

We used lots of pumpkin.

And, voilĂ ! Preschool pumpkin bread!

We love pumpkins!
