September 7th, 2018

What a wonderful first week we've had together!

We made it through our first-day measurements...

our first-day pictures...

our first-day ring around the rosie...

our first-day drawings...

our first-day playdough play...

and our first-day Spanish lesson, mi escuela.

But wait!  There's more!  During the rest of the week, we also finger painted in shaving cream...

played with Mr. Potato Head felt pieces...

played with legos...

played with our community...

carefully wrote our names...

looked into a mirror to see what our faces looked like...

so that we could paint our self-portraits.

Throughout the week we also spent a significant amount of time talking about our emotions.
We talked about feeling happy...

feeling sad...

 feeling scared

and feeling angry.

We had fun with those faces in the mirror, too.

Actually, I think this is just a class that really likes looking into the mirror.

With a deeper understanding of our emotions, we practiced sharing.

We practiced asking one another, "In two minutes, may I have a turn?"

We practiced offering our friends something fun.

We loved one another this week.

And we had so much fun together!

It was a week worth celebrating.  So, by Friday, we finished our first week off with some classmade chocolate chip cookies.  For perfect cookies, follow this fail-proof recipe.

First Week Chocolate Chip Cookies

In a small bowl, add 2 1/4 cups of flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

5 twists of salt

And stir.

In a large bowl, add 2 sticks of butter

3/4 cup of granulated sugar

3/4 cup of packed brown sugar

and stir with gusto.

Add 1 teaspoon vanilla

2 large eggs

Pour flour mixture into the large bowl

 And stir with vigor.

Add a bag of chocolate chips or chunks (chunks are way better)

And stir like you're a 4-year-old who loves stirring.

Finally, plop cookie dough onto a sheet into big piles.

Bake at 350° for 10-12 minutes.

Finally, enjoy!

It's been a good week!
